Beverly Wilshire Hotel
Beverly Wilshire Hotel is a branch of the Four Seasons brand, located within Beverly Hills, California. It is a luxury hotel with many historic touches. It is found at the intersection of Rodeo Drive and Wilshire Boulevard and the building was completed during 1928. It has been a location that many people use for filming television series and location for films. Many guests have included celebrities and United States presidents.
The hotel is located on the eastern side of South Rodeo Drive on 9500 Wilshire Boulevard.
Walter McCarty had the hotel constructed where the old Beverly Hills Speedway was located, and it was completed during 1928. That was when Beverly Hills had less than 20,000 residents. It was called the Beverly Wilshire Apartment Hotel. This E shaped building is built using Carrara marble and Tuscan stone using Italian Renaissance styled architecture.
Eventually it would be renamed the Beverly Wilshire Hotel by the new owners of the hotel. It was during the 1940s that the hotel was renovated to include a ballroom so that it would be able to accommodate big bands that were very popular during that era. Eventually an Olympic sized swimming pool was put in and eventually a championship tennis court would be added and Pancho Gonzalez, a tennis champion would act as the tennis director.
It was during 1958 that the hotel had went to a new owner and then it would change hands again in 1961, when it was purchased by Hernando Courtright. The hotel was then renamed to become the Hernando Courtright Beverly Wilshire Hotel. Then during 1971, the tower wing was added which doubled the size of the hotel immensely.
Then during 1985, Regent International Hotels had purchased the hotel for around $125 million and this 395-room luxury hotel was renovated much more which cost $100 million to do and it was renamed again to become the Regent Beverly Wilshire. Then during 1992, Four Seasons Hotel & Resorts had purchased the hotel and it was renamed again which made it the Regent Beverly Wilshire, a Four Seasons Hotel.
Then during 1995, the hotel was purchased by Joint Treasure International which was a private equity firm located within Hong Kong. It was during the final renovation that the hotel would be renamed yet again. It would drop the Regent and become Beverly Wilshire Beverly Hills, A Four Seasons Hotel.
Then during 2006, Wolfgang Puck has opened and ran Cut, which is a restaurant within the hotel.
The hotel has been called home for many celebrities such as Warren Beatty. Elvis Presley had spent many years in the hotel. It was also seen to be the home of John Lennon while he was separated from his wife Yoko Ono for several months. Barbara Hutton, the Woolworth heiress spent years here in bad health and died in the hotel during May of 1979. President Barack Obama has stayed here as well as the Dalai Lama, Elton John, Al Pacino, Farrah Fawcett, and the main setting for the movie Pretty Woman was the Beverly Wilshire, even though most of the scenes were shot at the Ambassador Hotel.
